  • Canary Wharf Tower, at 5.2 metres, is the largest model in Miniland. It is made out of 200,000 LEGO® bricks, and took 3 model makers 850 hours to finish the model
  • The smallest models are those of pigeons that one can see at the Trafalgar Square, and each pigeon is made up of just 5 LEGO® bricks

History of LEGOLAND® Windsor

If you want to get a slice of LEGOLAND® Windsor's history, you would have to go back all the way to 1934 when the LEGO® brick was invented. The credit goes to Ole Kirk Christiansen; he coined the term LEGO®, which is derived from two Danish words, 'Leg godt', which mean "play well."

In 1969, in Billund, Denmark, the first LEGOLAND® was established after it was decided to have a permanent exhibition of LEGO® models. And, in 1996, LEGOLAND® Windsor opened its doors to children and families across the UK and Europe. Initially, LEGOLAND® Windsor had 25 million LEGO® bricks, but this count has gone up to nearly 55 million.

Today, LEGOLAND® Windsor boasts of more than 55 rides that are interactive, 11 restaurants and café, 7 shops, 1155 full time staff and 775 seasonal staff.

Set sail with us on a perilous swashbucklin’ adventure in 2014, to Pirate Shores at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort.

Will you join Captain Good Brick’s crew as they battle to save Castaway Camp? The all new pirate play area complete with a towering forgotten fortress and fearsome battle ships. High rope-walks, nets and slides will challenge the most experienced buccaneers.

Fun for brave shipmates doesn’t stop there. The hugely popular Pirate Falls log flume will host a brand new quest – can ye help to search for Good Brick’s long lost treasure hoard and reclaim it from the scurrilous Captain Black Heart? Scallywag the Parrot will take you on an animated journey through Pirate Shores to find Black Heart’s hidden lagoon before you face the final climb to the Treetop Lookout. Beware, what goes up must come down - waterproofs recommended - even for the most adventurous deckhands.

Also in Pirate Shores, LEGOLAND favourite the Jolly Rocker Pirate Ship is waiting to give you the voyage of your life - testing your nerves as well as your sea legs! Sailors must have a head for heights.
